About Me

Greetings!  I was born and raised in Saginaw.  I attended Saginaw Valley State University and earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2004.  My degree and license for teaching also includes certification for middle school english and mathematics.  After graduation, there were not many job opportunities for new teachers in Michigan, so I headed down to North Carolina.  I taught in Raleigh and Fayetteville for seven years- mainly fifth grade, but also middle school and first grade.  I also earned my master's degree from North Carolina State University-- Curriculum and Instruction with a special focus in reading education.  I plan to begin my doctorate this school year, with a specialization in assessment and learning.  I think it is extremely important that we consider our children more when designing standardized tests, and advocate to that extent.

In 2013 I returned to my family here in Saginaw, and joined the Bridgeport team in February 2015 (I was a long term sub in 2014 here as well).  I love the students and families in Bridgeport, and I love teaching!  When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading mysteries and historical research.  I spend time with my family, which includes my cat (Aurora) and my nieces and nephew.  I also love to go shopping and to travel.  You can catch me sneaking to the movie theaters whenever possible, and I have a love of Chinese food.

I am very excited to remain on the third grade team this year- we are an incredible group of teachers who are particularly dedicated to our students.  We've got a LOT planned for this school year, including many field trips and opportunities to apply our learning to our actions.  Welcome back to school!
